The way to wellness as we come out of winter
In other parts of the globe, winter is ‘the most wonderful time of the year’, and Melbournians it’s time we embraced the cool change. Make the most of snuggly layers of clothing, hot cups of morning coffee and weekends relaxing with a book in a hot bath (before the weather warms up again and you regret not doing so before). Ditch feeling uninspired and under the weather with these tips to help you on the way to wellness.
Hydration is key
Staying hydrated during the cooler months is important. When the body is properly hydrated it works at its optimal energy level. Keeping fluids up can also help to boost the immune system and ensure common colds are kept at bay. The skin’s exposure to cold temperatures can result in chapping and peeling, and regularly drinking water throughout the day assists in keeping the skin’s cells plump and hydrated.
Add a bit of Vitamin C
We’re spending a lot of time indoors right now, which mean less opportunity for a natural Vitamin C boost from the sun. Enjoy a freshly squeezed juice, incorporate a skincare product with added Vitamin C or whip up a veggie packed recipe in the kitchen.
Summer bodies are made in winter so get motivated and moving. Set up a workout zone in a quite area of the house and practice your zen, realigning and stretching out on a yoga mat. If braving the cold outdoors in short bursts, invest in warm, breathable activewear. There are lots of online at-home workout resources at the moment, so check in with your local Yoga or HIIT studio for some virtual classes.
Enjoy some down time
Now is the perfect time to enjoy some rest and relaxation and recharge mind, body and soul. Get lost in a novel, unleash inner creativity through painting or illustration, bake a new recipe or add a pop of colour with an at-home mani-pedi.
